Drive to THE PLAYERS Championship with FL511

Golf fans have an opportunity to watch one of the world’s best tournaments this March in Florida. THE PLAYERS Championship takes place at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. A field of top golfers will via for the championship title from March 12th to 17th.

More than 150,000 spectators are expected throughout the week. FL511 can help fans spend more time in the gallery and less on the road!

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) encourages fans to use the Florida 511 (FL511) Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) to plan their trip to and from the tournament. FL511 will feature real-time traffic information that will ease the drive both to and from the tournament.

Roads to the tournament will be crowded. During the event, motorists should be aware of conditions on I-95, the I-295 Beltway and State Road A1A. They should also consider one or more alternate routes to and from the stadium at TPC Sawgrass, and alternate parking as this is not provided at the stadium course.

Fans may also want to follow FL511 on Twitter. There are 13 handles including ones for northeast Florida (@FL511_Northeast) and I-95 (@FL511_I95). Fans may also want to follow the FL511 Facebook and Instagram pages, which provide events, photos and news about activities.

Make spring break a breeze with FL511

It’s been a bitterly cold winter in many parts of the United States and spring breakers and snowbirds alike are now descending on Florida. Visitors come for the beautiful beaches, warm weather, and a needed break from the Arctic chill that has gripped much of the nation this winter.

Millions of additional vehicles will be on Florida roads this spring. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) encourages motorists to drive carefully and download the FL511 App or access the website FL511.com to help make the trip a breeze in the Sunshine State! The Florida 511 (FL511) Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) has a wealth of information to make any drive safer and reduce travel time.

Features include providing route-specific directions and travel times; snapshot cameras on interstates, toll-roads and other major roadways; and alerts about congestion, crashes, blocked roads, detours and severe weather to help motorists make informed decisions about driving plans.

Spring breakers and snowbirds may find the cameras helpful when returning home too, so they can see road conditions on I-95, I-75 and other major roads leading out of Florida. Once on the road, FDOT reminds travelers that only a passenger can check the app in a moving vehicle. For solo travelers, please use Drive Mode or pull over, find a safe spot to park, and check the app while not driving, if needed.

This March and April, let FL511 ease trip to and from Florida. To learn more, visit the website and download the FL511 Mobile App from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

FL511 salutes Florida’s women in transportation

Each March, the United States celebrates the contributions of women to our nation and society during Women’s History Month. In celebration of this, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will recognize the achievements of women in Florida to transportation.

All branches of transportation traditionally have been dominated by men – road, rail, air and sea. Despite this, women have had notable, and sometimes famous, roles throughout the history of each. Today, women have leadership roles in all branches.

The Florida 511 (FL511) Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) is saluting women in Florida who have exhibited passion, bravery, intelligence, compassion, creativity, leadership and other skills and talents in the field of transportation.

Throughout the month FL511 will share information of women in transportation on the FL511 Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages. Each will highlight the day-to-day role of many women throughout our communities who provide a great service in the transportation industry.

Happy Women’s History Month.
