TALLAHASSEE — For tips on how todrive for several hours while only turning left, ask a NASCAR driver. For tips on how to find the best route to the 2018 Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway, use FL511.
With over 100,000 fans expected to attend this weekend event, set for November 16th – 18th, drivers can rely on the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Florida 511 Advanced Traveler Information System (FL511) to arrive safely and with fewer delays.
Florida residents and visitors can check FL511 before hitting the road for up-to-date traffic information in English or Spanish. They also can view traffic cameras on roads and at intersections near the racetrack, including the Florida Turnpike and Interstate 95 (I-95).
The FL511 mobile app, available on Google Play or the Apple App Store, features an interactive map showing traffic speeds and incidents on roadways around the user’s location. The mobile app also can suggest alternate routes. Anyone can register for a My Florida 511 personalized services account and create custom door-to-door routes to the speedway or other favorite destinations. Each route includes travel-time estimates, traffic incident information and the ability to schedule email or text alerts.
Additional ways to receive traffic information from FL511 includes following one or more of the statewide, regional or roadway-specific Twitter feeds (#FL511) such as @FL511_i95, @FL511_southeast, and @FL511_turnpike.
FDOT encourages all drivers to visit the FL511 website before heading to your destination, or have a passenger check the mobile app to avoid using a phone while driving.
