Go Back to School with FL511
August marks the end of the summer break and the beginning of a new school year for hundreds of thousands of students across the Sunshine State. For drivers, this means increased congestion and longer travel times, especially during morning and afternoon hours.
To navigate more efficiently, the Florida Department of Transportation encourages motorists to visit FL511.com or use the Florida 511 Mobile App before heading out to get real-time information on road conditions including congestion, road closures, detours, incidents and weather alerts.
With schools back in session, road safety becomes even more critical, particularly in and around school zones. FDOT reminds motorists to:
- Use extra caution
- Slow down and obey all traffic laws, speed limits, and traffic signals
- Watch for children and youth walking and biking
- Stop for school buses displaying a stop signal
