This Public Information Office (PIO) resource kit includes updated social media posts, newsletter and website content, as well as key messages to help keep travelers safe on Florida’s roadways.

FDOT’s 511 system is Florida’s official source for traffic information providing real-time traffic information on all Florida interstates, toll roads and other major metropolitan roadways in the state. Florida 511 provides helpful information to travelers about crashes, congestion, construction, alternate routes, AMBER, Silver and Blue Alerts, evacuation updates and more.

511 offers five convenient ways for motorists to receive traffic updates:

  • Download the free Florida 511 mobile app available on Google Play or Apple App Store.
  • Visit FL511.com for interactive roadway maps showing traffic congestion and crashes, travel times and traffic camera views with information available in English and Spanish.
  • Sign up for a “My Florida 511” account at FL511.com to create custom routes and register for email or text alerts.
  • Call 511 toll-free for updates.
  • Follow one or more of the 13 statewide, regional or roadway-specific Twitter feeds (#FL511).

My Florida 511 personalized services allow drivers to sign up for text or email alerts regarding conditions on their routes. Users can select the times of day they would like to receive notifications to ensure they only get the information when they want it. Drivers can register at FL511.com.

Local and state agencies have tremendous power to publicize 511. We have found during times of adverse roadway conditions such as severe weather, road closures and construction, the use of the Florida 511 system increases even faster when local agencies encourage drivers via traditional and social media to check 511.

And as you know, the more drivers can avoid crash sites, the safer it is for first responders.
