Florida 511 Spring Break Toolkit

The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Florida 511 Traveler Information System is the state’s official source for traffic and travel information. Florida 511 provides free real-time information on crashes, construction, congestion, travel times, severe weather, AMBER Alerts and more.

Florida 511 offers five convenient ways for motorists to receive traffic updates:

  • Download the free Florida 511 mobile app available on Google Playor Apple App Store.
  • Visit the interactive roadway map on the com home page showing traffic congestion and crashes, travel times and traffic camera views with information available in English and Spanish.
  • Sign up for a My Florida 511 account at comto create door-to-door routes to favorite destinations and register for custom email or text alerts.
  • Call 511 toll-free for updates.
  • Follow one or more of the statewide, regional or roadway-specific Twitterfeeds (#FL511).

This toolkit includes suggested social media content for spring break that  encourages students and their families to use Florida 511 during their holiday travels to stay informed of roadway and traffic conditions, or plan alternative routes to favorite destinations, if needed. FDOT encourages schools to use this content on their respective social media platforms. A short blurb has also been provided for use in email blasts, newsletters and other communication tools.

Spring Break is here! Whether you’re headed to the beach or visiting family in the Sunshine State, it’s important to bear in mind some simple driving safety tips amidst the Spring Break rush.

  • Plan out your route before you hit the road.
  • Always wear a seatbelt.
  • Slow down and be aware of road and traffic conditions when entering work zones.
  • Take regular breaks and rotate drivers during long trips to avoid driving while fatigued.
