New Features Enhance the
Florida 511 User Experience

The Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) Florida 511 Traveler Information System has added a new Twitter account in Spanish. The new @FL511_Estatal account provides statewide traffic alerts and information about concerts, festivals and more.

The Florida 511 website now features a new page providing more information about My Florida 511 personalized services. Click on the TEXT ALERTS icon at the top of the website. This page provides information about how to schedule text and email alerts, create a slideshow of FDOT traffic cameras and receive emergency alerts. As with all Florida 511 services, a My Florida 511 personalized services account is free.

Several website pages also have been optimized for a better user experience. The Transit/Airports, Links and FAQ pages now can be expanded and collapsed to help users find information with ease.

A new Florida 511 phone system feature allows users to transfer to two more transit agencies: the Community Mini Bus Service of Hallandale Beach and Treasure Coast Connector Plus. Call 511, say “transfer my call” and ask for the agency name.

Florida Launches Safe Summer Travel Campaign for Vacationers
Safe Summer Travel

With more residents and visitors expected to use Florida’s roadways, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) has launched its Safe Summer Travel campaign. FDOT is partnering with FLHSMV and the Florida Department of Children and Families, Florida Police Chiefs Association, Florida Sheriffs Association and AAA to encourage travelers planning to enjoy Florida’s beautiful beaches or other favorite destinations in the state this summer to place safety at the top of their vacation checklist.

The FLHSMV and FDOT encourage travelers to follow the Safe Summer Travel Checklist.

  • Prepare for driving in severe weather.
  • NEVER leave children or pets in vehicles unattended.
  • Florida drivers and those with Florida ID cards should register emergency contact information with the FLHSMV.
  • Check for vehicle recalls at safercar.gov.
  • Buckle up; it’s the law!
  • Slow down and obey all posted speed limits.
  • Drive sober. Never drink and drive.
  • Check Florida 511 for current driving conditions before leaving.

Strike Out MLB All-Star Game Traffic with Florida 511
Strike Out MLB All-Star Game traffic

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) encourages baseball fans traveling to Miami for the 2017 Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Game to use the Florida 511 Traveler Information System to find the best route to Marlins Park.

The city of Miami will be a first-time host when the 88th Midsummer Classic is played in front of a capacity crowd at Marlins Park Tuesday, July 11. With thousands more participating in activities outside the stadium in Little Havana, drivers should expect nearby interstates, toll roads and city streets to be busy.

Drivers should check the statewide interactive road map on FL511.com or free mobile app before leaving for travel information in English or Spanish, including current traffic speeds, road closures, incidents and more. The My Routes feature provides door-to-door directions with travel times, distance, incident alerts and alternate routes. Users also can view traffic cameras showing current driving conditions near Marlins Park.

Additional ways to receive traffic information include calling 511 toll-free from any phone in the state or following any of the statewide, regional or roadway-specific Florida 511 Twitter feeds (#FL511).

Use Florida 511 during
Shriners International Convention in Daytona Beach
Shriners International Convention

When an estimated 15,000 Shriners and their guests arrive in Daytona Beach for their annual convention that runs from Sunday, July 9, through Thursday, July 13, residents can expect throngs of visitors, groups of motorcycle riders with police escorts and a Shriners parade.

To keep traffic flowing smoothly during what is expected to be Daytona Beach’s largest convention ever, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) encourages attendees and residents to use the Florida 511 Traveler Information System.

The 2017 Imperial Session of Shriners International kicks off at the Ocean Center Sunday, July 9. The big meeting brings together members of the fraternal and charitable organization that is known for the Shriners Hospitals for Children and its parades featuring tiny cars driven by adults.

Visitors and residents can check the interactive road map on FL511.com or by downloading the free Florida 511 mobile app. These resources can help motorists during convention activities that include a Shriners parade scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, along Atlantic Avenue (State Road A1A) from Sun Splash Park to the Ocean Center.
