Using Florida 511 in Your Holiday Travel Plans
This holiday season, many cities in Florida are top travel destinations for both Florida residents and tourists, leading to high volumes of cars and congestion on Florida’s roads. Travel smart and hassle-free this holiday season by using Florida 511. Know before you go and prepare for your trip ahead of time to be sure you arrive safely to your destination. When planning for road trips, whether solo or with family and friends, there are many ways Florida 511 can help.
511 Video Before heading out:

  1. Check traffic conditions on FL511.com throughout your route to have an idea of the trip ahead.
  2. Set up custom routes and personalized alerts for your trip with My Florida 511. You can set the system to notify you when there is a crash, congestion or construction on your route via phone call, text or email.
  3. Download the free mobile app and follow some of the 13 regional and road-specific Twitter feeds.

While driving:

  1. If you have a passenger with you, he or she can check for updates while on the road; otherwise, safely pull over to check conditions along your route.
  2. If your car has hands-free technology or you use a headset, call 5-1-1 to access traffic information via the voice recognition system.

Additional Holiday Travel Safety Tips
  1. Don’t drink and drive: If alcohol is involved, secure a designated driver or alternative plans to driving.
  2. Don’t text and drive: If you need to send a text message or look something up on your phone, have a passenger assist you or safely pull over.
  3. Get enough sleep: If you’re planning a road trip, get enough sleep the night before. If it’s a long drive, plan driving breaks. Aware drivers are safer drivers.
Tackle College Bowl Game Traffic with Florida 511

Florida is hosting nine College Bowl games this football season. Motorists throughout the state should prepare for an increase in traffic on all Florida roads.
